Melissa Lowery '10 created her documentary, Black Girl in Suburbia, to start conversations. That's exactly what she's doing as the film is screening around the state. Catch it this month at Pacific and at the Portland Black Film Festival.
Barbara was a shy PK (preacher's kid) from the big city of Los Angeles.
A 29-year career culminating in the Office of the Surgeon General started with optometry school at Pacific. “Pacific was, and still is, a small school where, instead of being a number, you can become an individual," said Col. John Pyle OD '64. "I had a really good time there.”
"The program really just prepares you for the day-to-day challenges of the classroom," said Pacific University alumna Becky Tengs '08, now a teacher at the Forest Grove Community School.
Kelsey met her long-time boyfriend, Jeremy, during a freshman orientation ice-breaker.
Her hand tapped the microphone as she began to speak about the importance of hula to a culture where it is not commonly practiced. Her voice sang the words of her hula expressions, and her movements suggested the beauty that followed.
Each year, alumni celebrate milestones by gathering with their classmates at Homecoming. Among the top milestones is induction into the Golden Guard.
