Academic Coaching | Advising Center
Coaching is a one-time or series of conversations that are meant to enhance your well-being and your academic performance. Coaching provides a partnership between Forest Grove undergraduate students who want to improve their academic strategies and the coach is trained to listen and ask thought-provoking questions. Pacific offers Peer Coaching through our Tutoring Center (CLASS) and Professional Coaching through Academic & Career Advising.
How can it help me?
Academic coaching is useful for Forest Grove undergraduate students looking for general academic support, rather than assistance for a specific course. Peer academic coaches can help with things like time management, note-taking, test preparation, and utilizing effective study strategies, all of which are helpful for developing successful habits for any course. Academic coaching is available to undergraduate students.
Coaching can help you determine what your next steps are for upcoming challenges you face like planning for a hard class, preparing for midterms and exams, or managing and planning out your course load. Appointments provide continuing support throughout the semester and academic year. You can meet with a coach twice a semester or on a weekly basis to help you increase your confidence and achieve your academic goals, the choice is up to you.
Coaching sessions are also split into two different categories: Coaching & Strategy. Coaching sessions are ongoing and provide longer-term support for a student. Strategy sessions are meant for students who want specific support that don’t require long-term meetings and multiple sessions. Students can start at Strategy sessions and move to Coaching sessions and vice versa.
What can I expect from my coaching session?
Academic coaching gives you space for a conversation that will help you establish and/or move forward with your goals. Since its focused on your needs and goals, the coaching appointment will go at the direction YOU want it to. The coach will listen, ask questions, and provide information and resources, but for the most part, we’ll be talking through and thinking about the goals you want to accomplish, putting you in control and giving you agency over your academic success.
How can I make a Coaching Appointment?
You can make a coaching appointment with a Peer Coach or the Professional Academic Coach. If you have questions about what a coach can help you on or want further information, email Angel Mandujano-Guevara, Academic Coach, at email@example.com.
